Bee Mountain Fire Tower
Vandervoort, Polk County
The CCC built this lookout tower near Mena around 1938. Watchers lived alone in or near towers like this and spent their days scanning the Ouachita forests for smoke. Arkansas once had more than 120 fire towers; fewer than 50 still stand. Bee Mountain is on the National Historic Lookout Register.
