Clover Bend
Lawrence County

In 1937 the federal government bought the old Clover Bend plantation on the Black River and divided it into 86 to 88 family farms for white tenant farmers, most around 45 acres. The elementary school opened in January 1938; the high school started in fall 1939 and graduated its first three students in May 1940. The school ran until 1983, and a local preservation group now cares for the historic district.
