Crossett Experimental Forest Project
Crossett, Ashley County
The Crossett Experimental Forest, south of Crossett, began in 1933 with 13 miles of roads dug by hand by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. The WPA cut firelines, some still in use, and put up buildings in 1935 and 1936, and the CCC built three more buildings in 1939 and 1940. Forest Service researchers here have published more than 1,000 articles on forest management.
