Horace Mann School Historic District
Norfork, Baxter County

Norfork's old wooden school was worn out by the 1930s, so the WPA and the community built a fieldstone schoolhouse here, finished in 1937 and named for education reformer Horace Mann. The National Youth Administration added more buildings, and a gym and auditorium went up in 1940. The local paper noted it was one of very few schools in the state serving every pupil a free hot lunch.
