The WPA set aside $150,000 to replace Malvern's Victorian courthouse, and Little Rock architect Charles L. Thompson designed this Art Deco building in its place. It opened in 1936, the year Franklin Roosevelt visited for Arkansas's centennial. It was built of brick from a Malvern factory, fitting for a town that called itself the "Brick Capital of the World."
