Lake Dick
Lake Dick, Jefferson County

Lake Dick, four miles south of Altheimer, was an experiment: instead of separate homesteads, families lived together in one village and farmed as a cooperative association that ran the farming and services like the general store. The government bought the land in 1936, and white families were chosen to settle it, mostly growing cotton. Congress cut its funding during the war, and the cooperative was dissolved in 1945.
