Lakeview Resettlement Project
Lake View, Phillips County

The Resettlement Administration built Lakeview for Black farm families on foreclosed plantation land in Phillips and Lee counties. Sources differ on its size (one says 142 farms on 8,163 acres, another 95 farms on 5,600 acres). It opened in 1937, was dedicated in 1938, and had its own store, cotton gin, feed mill and school. The town of Lake View grew from it, and its school district later led the 1990s court fight that reshaped school funding in Arkansas.
