Bertrand Adams got more criticism from Washington than any other artist painting for Arkansas, and nearly quit. His 1940 mural "Lumbering in Arkansas" shows four ways the state made a living: a sawmill in the center, a zinc mine, farmers hauling hay, and a cotton gin. It still hangs in the Siloam Springs post office.
