E. Martin Hennings's 1940 mural "The Chosen Site" shows a pioneer family with an ox-drawn covered wagon reaching the spot on the Arkansas River where they will settle, the start of what became Van Buren. Hennings used his wife and daughter as models. It hangs in the Van Buren post office on Fayetteville Road.
